A Noble Cause

This will be my first and last job” is what Ms Foy Dablo told me when I asked her about her plan of spending her entire working life for MFI. She said it with so much conviction as if it’s the best job in the world. That kept me wondering why, until I found out her reasons.

I learned it’s not the financial reward. It’s in helping deserving students with their problems that motivates her. It was the 2011 Alumni homecoming event so the room was filled with noise as we talked but I can clearly hear her words as if it’s coming from her heart. I was also touched when I realized how MFI, in the midst of its difficulties, is doing everything to continue with its mission.

I was then introduced to Michael Angelo Lajara, the first student to graduate thru the sponsorship of a handful generous alumni from batch86. They were Irma Santos, Grace San Jose, Melanie Fetalvero and names I can’t recall. We still hear some of those names until now. Medyo napahiya ako sa sarili ko and I felt sad because I was not able to participate. Still, I’m proud to be in the company of the small group of people who have made a difference in the life of a deserving youth. There were other alumni batches who’ve also given their share since then. We’re all proud of you.

As what sir Nolz Santos told me way back then, MFI needs support in order to continue giving free technical education to poor but deserving youth.

But that was 10 years ago. To this day, we are aware of the devastating effect of the current pandemic to the economy, and schools were among the hardest hit and have resulted to the shutdown of even some of the big institutions in the field of education. Sadly, MFI is not excluded.

To my fellow alumni, MFI is not asking for so much to continue its work. If you think this is the time to show our gratitude in anyway we can, just let us in the MFI Alumni Association know.
